Five Favorites: Texas outings with my parents +3 great links found online this week

Before sharing the list:

This week my little blog turned 8 years old.

Thank you for celebrating with me.  I'd love to hear what posts have been your favorites!

Also, this week, my parents visited Austin!  We had a perfectly delightful (although occasionally chilly) five days together.  Here's a quick photo diary...

Five Favorites: Texas outings with my parents

-- 1 --

Thursday: The Salt Lick, Driftwood

-- 2 --

Friday:  visit Alex at Rice University, Houston

Alex shows the campus off to the grandparents

-- 3 --

Saturday: family reunion on Lake Livingston

unfortunately one of the chilly days for these 3 sisters from 3 states (notice the electric blanket cord)

just a small portion of the Gilmore family at my cousin's lake house

-- 4 --

Monday:  a pretty  birthday party

my mom throws the best parties
-- 5 --

I took the day off work so I could spend the morning writing in a coffee shop with my Mom.

Other good words online this week

G.K Chesterton in 1,000 Words at Front Porch Republic:  "He is actually an overgrown elf. He casts a spell, and the spell is called joy. "

Portraits of Reconciliation at NY Times Magazine:  My daughter Natalie introduced me to these astounding portraits of former enemies in Rwanda.  A challenge to all of us as we enter Holy Week.

Make a Cross this Palm Sunday at Good, True & Beautiful:  "Impress your Kids.  Wow your Deacons. No Glue, no ribbons, just a Palm Branch."

A palm-waving weekend for us all, dear ones.
